What are Skin Boosters?

Skin boosters are advanced cosmetic treatments that involve the injection of hydrating substances, such as hyaluronic acid, into the skin. These boosters are designed to enhance hydration, improve skin elasticity, and restore a youthful, radiant complexion.

How Skin Boosters Work

Nurse Kelly | Skin Boosters

Skin boosters work by delivering a potent dose of hydrating ingredients directly into the dermal layers of the skin. Typically composed of substances like hyaluronic acid, they promote deep hydration, stimulate collagen production, and address specific skin concerns, resulting in a more rejuvenated and plump appearance.

Advantages of Skin Boosters

Skin boosters offer the following advantages:

  • Hydration Enhancement: Skin boosters deeply hydrate the skin, improving moisture levels and addressing issues of dryness and dehydration.
  • Improved Skin Texture: These treatments contribute to a smoother and softer skin texture, reducing the appearance of roughness and unevenness.
  • Increased Skin Firmness: Skin boosters stimulate collagen production, promoting skin elasticity and firmness for a more youthful appearance.
  • Reduction of Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Fine lines and wrinkles are visibly diminished as a result of the plumping and rejuvenating effects of skin boosters.
  • Natural-Looking Results: Skin boosters provide subtle and natural-looking results, enhancing the overall quality of the skin without an “overdone” appearance.
  • Long-Lasting Benefits: While individual results may vary, many individuals experience long-lasting benefits from skin booster treatments, reducing the need for frequent touch-ups.
  • Non-Surgical Solution: Skin boosters offer a non-surgical alternative to address various skin concerns, providing a minimally invasive option for skin rejuvenation.
  • Versatile Treatment: Suitable for various skin types and concerns, skin boosters can be customized to target specific areas of the face, neck, or hands.
  • Quick Recovery: Patients typically experience minimal downtime after skin booster treatments, allowing them to resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure.
  • Customized Approach: Skin boosters can be tailored to each individual’s unique skin needs, ensuring a personalized and effective treatment plan.

What Brands Do We Use?

At Nurse Kelly skin boosters Cayman Islands, we exclusively use top-tier brands for skin boosters, including EJAL40, Profhilo, Juvederm Volite, Restylane, Radiesse, and Sculptra. These renowned brands ensure the highest quality and safety standards in our skin rejuvenation procedures.

EJAL40

EJAL40 is a skin booster made with hyaluronic acid (HA) and a complex of peptides. It is designed to improve skin hydration, elasticity, and overall appearance. EJAL40 is typically injected into the middle layer of the skin (dermis) in a series of three treatments, spaced four weeks apart.

Profhilo

Profhilo is a hybrid of a skin booster and a filler. It is made with HA and stabilizers, which help to slow down the breakdown of HA and provide longer-lasting results. Profhilo is injected into the subcutaneous layer of the skin, which is deeper than the dermis. This allows for more diffuse hydration of the skin and can help to improve the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin.

Juvederm Volite

Juvederm Volite is a dermal filler made with HA. It is designed to add volume to the skin and smooth out wrinkles and lines. Juvederm Volite is typically injected into the mid-to-deep dermis in a single treatment.

Restylane

Restylane is another dermal filler made with HA. It is designed to add volume to the skin, smooth out wrinkles and lines, and enhance facial contours. Restylane is available in a variety of formulas, each with a different HA concentration and particle size. This allows for customization based on the individual’s needs.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a dermal filler made with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. It is designed to add volume to the skin, smooth out wrinkles and lines, and stimulate collagen production. Radiesse is typically injected into the deep dermis or subcutis (the layer of fat below the dermis) in a single treatment.

Sculptra

Sculptra is a dermal filler made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic material. It is designed to stimulate collagen production and add volume to the skin, gradually improving the appearance of wrinkles and lines. Sculptra is typically injected into the deep dermis or subcutis in a series of three to four treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart.

What to Expect Before Skin Boosters

Nurse Kelly | Skin Boosters

Before skin booster treatments, a thorough consultation is conducted to assess individual skin concerns and determine the most suitable approach. Pre-treatment guidelines, including avoiding certain medications and skincare products, are provided to optimize the procedure’s effectiveness.

What to Expect During Skin Boosters

During the skin booster procedure, a trained professional will administer the injections strategically across the treatment area. The process is generally well-tolerated and any discomfort is minimized through the use of topical anesthesia or numbing agents.

Skin Boosters Recovery Time

Recovery time for skin boosters is typically minimal. Patients may experience some redness or swelling immediately after the procedure but these effects usually subside within a few days. Most individuals can resume their daily activities shortly after treatment.

Conditions Treated by Skin Boosters

Skin Boosters can help address signs of aging and certain medical conditions. The anti-aging and regenerative properties of this treatment are backed by a convincing number of studies.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Skin boosters treat fine lines and wrinkles by deeply hydrating the skin, enhancing moisture levels, and promoting a plumper appearance. The injections stimulate collagen production, which contributes to improved skin elasticity and reduces the visibility of fine lines. Over time, the combination of hydration and collagen stimulation leads to a smoother and more youthful complexion, addressing the signs of aging.

In 20 subjects treated with small particle hyaluronic acid (SP-HA), the study investigated the effects of SP-HA on skin properties. [1] Administered in three treatments on the face, neck, and/or hands, the results showed that SP-HA significantly improved hydration levels in all treated areas, with subjects transitioning from dry to moisturized skin. Moreover, the treatment demonstrated a safe and well-tolerated regimen, positively impacting the skin’s ability to retain moisture, and providing valuable insights into the rejuvenating effects of HA fillers on aging skin.

A study assessed the efficacy and safety of intradermal micropuncture injections using the HA-based gel filler BYRYZN® SKINBOOSTER HA combined with lidocaine (ACROSS Co., Ltd., Gangwon-do, Korea). [2] The study included 20 subjects aged between 30 and 60 years, exhibiting signs of skin aging such as wrinkles and loss of elasticity. Following three injections at 2-week intervals, the participants were monitored for 12 weeks. Results showed a significant decrease in the Lemperle wrinkle scale, improved skin parameters, and no serious adverse effects, indicating the safety and effectiveness of multiple microinjections of HA-based gel filler for facial skin aging.

In a multicenter study conducted in Sweden, France, and Brazil, subjects aged 35-50 years underwent full-face aesthetic combination treatments using either abobotulinumtoxinA (ABO) or hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, followed by repeated combined treatment with ABO, HA filler, and Restylane® Skinboosters (RSB). [3] Monotherapy involved ≤125 s.U ABO or ≤1 mL HA filler, and at months 6 and 12, both cohorts received ≤125 s.U ABO, ≤2 mL HA filler, and ≤1 mL RSB. The assessment of global facial aesthetic appearance, improvement, first impression, perceived age, wrinkle severity, satisfaction questionnaires, and adverse events revealed that repeated full-face treatment with ABO, HA filler, and RSB yielded superior aesthetic outcomes and higher satisfaction levels compared to monotherapy with ABO or HA filler alone. The study concluded that even modest volumes of HA filler achieved good aesthetic outcomes, and the combination treatments were well-tolerated, resulting in high satisfaction levels and improved aesthetic appearance with each treatment.

Treatment Options

Skin boosters treat fine lines and wrinkles by delivering hydration deep within the skin, stimulating collagen production, and improving overall skin elasticity and texture.

Dehydrated Skin

Dehydrated skin lacks sufficient moisture and water content, often leading to a dull and rough complexion. This condition is characterized by the skin’s inability to retain moisture, resulting in tightness, flakiness, and an overall lack of suppleness. Factors such as environmental conditions, inadequate hydration, and the use of harsh skincare products can contribute to the development of dehydrated skin.

Skin boosters are highly effective in treating dehydrated skin by providing deep hydration through the injection of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that attracts and retains moisture. These boosters work to replenish and maintain optimal hydration levels, resulting in improved skin texture, suppleness, and a radiant complexion. The hyaluronic acid in skin boosters also stimulates collagen production, enhancing the skin’s ability to retain moisture and combat dehydration.

In one study, a group of researchers assessed the effectiveness and safety of non cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) booster injections for enhancing facial skin quality. [4] Twenty individuals, received three injections of non cross-linked HA (1-2 mL) at 3-week intervals. Skin hydration increased significantly at both 1 week and 4 months post-treatment. The booster therapy demonstrated improvements in skin firmness, elasticity, and fatigue, as well as a positive physician’s global assessment, indicating that the procedure is safe and well-tolerated with noticeable benefits in skin quality.

In another study, fifteen female patients with a mean age of 41 years underwent subdermal injections of two non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (HA) products—one for each hemiface and hemi-neck. [5] The procedure, performed with a 25G 50 mm cannula from three entry points, was monitored by ultrasound examinations before and every 6–7 days up to three weeks. The results revealed significant skin quality improvement, as assessed by the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS), with minimal pain, bruising, or edema, making subdermal injections of non-crosslinked HA “skin boosters” a promising option for achieving effective and lasting skin enhancement with minimal trauma.

In a 15-month multi-center study, the efficacy and safety of a hyaluronic acid gel for enhancing aged skin on the dorsal hand were evaluated. [6] Adult Chinese subjects with mild or moderate aging received three treatments with hyaluronic acid gel on one hand. The results showed clinically significant improvements in the treated hands, as assessed by the Hand Grading Scale, Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale, and objective measurements of skin elasticity, roughness, and hydration. The hyaluronic acid treatment demonstrated effectiveness in improving skin quality and reducing the signs of aging on the hand, with high satisfaction among subjects.
