What is Profhilo?

Profhilo makes use of a stabilized injectable hyaluronic acid that is designed to improve hydration and skin laxity. This minimally invasive skin rejuvenation method is used to treat signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, dry skin, and skin laxity.

How Profhilo Works

Nurse Kelly | Profhilo

Profhilo utilizes ultra-pure hyaluronic acid that is precisely injected into the target skin area. This in turn stimulates the production of two essential skin proteins: collagen and elastin. Collagen plays an integral role in the maintenance of skin structures while elastin helps maintain skin elasticity. The injected hyaluronic acid also attracts water into the deeper skin layers, thus locking moisture and improving skin hydration. Over time, the treated area becomes smoother, tighter, and well-hydrated.

Advantages of Profhilo

Profhilo offers the following advantages:

  • Shorter recovery time: The procedure is minimally invasive and does not require surgery, allowing you to return to your normal routine afterwards.
  • Minimal discomfort: Before you receive injections, a numbing cream will be applied to the target area to minimize discomfort.
  • Quick procedure: Depending on the condition being treated, the entire process can last anywhere from 10-30 minutes.
  • Long-lasting results: As a stabilized product, its effects on skin cells will last longer (6-9 months).
  • Numerous indications: The treatment can address signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, dry skin, and skin laxity.

Conditions Treated by Profhilo

Profhilo is a safe and effective treatment for signs of aging on the face and neck. Evidence shows that the hyaluronic acid contained in this treatment is beneficial for improving the overall quality of the skin.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Hyaluronic acid significantly reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by helping the skin stretch. It does this by increasing the production of new skin cells and retaining moisture in the skin. This in turn creates a plumping and rejuvenating effect.

A trial studied the effects of daily hyaluronic acid intake in 40 healthy Asian men and women aged 35-64 years. [1] The participants received daily hyaluronic acid at a dose of 120 mg for 12 weeks or a placebo. Image analysis was conducted to evaluate wrinkles, the water content of the skin, and skin elasticity. After 12 weeks of treatment, the group treated with hyaluronic acid had significant improvements in the appearance of wrinkles, skin water content, and skin elasticity compared to the placebo-treated group.

A review of studies assessed the efficacy of hyaluronic acid for skin rejuvenation. [2] It was found that hyaluronic acid exerts its skin-rejuvenating effects by augmenting soft tissue, improving skin hydration, stimulating collagen and elastin production, and restoring facial volume. In addition, hyaluronic acid was also found to improve skin tightness, skin elasticity, and wrinkle appearance whether administered as a single treatment or in combination with other agents.

A study assessed the effects of the combined treatment of hyaluronic acid and onabotulinumtoxin A in 152 subjects (25-65 years) with moderate to severe facial wrinkles. [3] Results showed that the participants who received the combined treatment reported looking 3 to 6 years younger at each visit, with significant improvements in forehead lines, smile lines, and wrinkles between the eyebrows. The treatment was well tolerated by the participants.

Treatment Options

Profhilo uses hyaluronic acid to stimulate collagen and elastin production which in turn reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Dry Skin

Dry skin can make your skin look rough, scaly, or flaky. Several factors can dry out your skin such as using harsh soaps, taking hot showers, or scrubbing excessively. While dry skin is harmless, this condition can lead to unpleasant symptoms such as itching and skin irritation.

Profhilo can treat and prevent skin dryness by improving skin hydration. The hyaluronic acid used in this treatment acts like a sponge to soak up water and keep it locked into your skin. This in turn helps your skin maintain a good amount of moisture.

A trial studied the effects of daily hyaluronic acid intake in 40 healthy Asian men and women aged 35-64 years. [1] The participants received daily hyaluronic acid at a dose of 120 mg for 12 weeks or a placebo. After 12 weeks, the image analysis revealed increased skin water content in the participants who received daily hyaluronic acid compared to the placebo-treated group.

Forty females aged 30-65 years with sun-damaged skin were included in a study. [4] The participants used hyaluronic acid facial serum twice daily with sunscreen. A dermatologist evaluated skin smoothness, plumpness, hydration, fine lines/wrinkles, and the general appearance of the skin. Facial swabbing and photography were also performed. Immediately after the application of the hyaluronic acid facial serum, an increase in skin hydration was observed. At week 6, the treatment also resulted in improvements in smoothness, plumpness, hydration, fine lines/wrinkles, and the general appearance of the skin.

A study evaluated the performance of hyaluronan hybrid cooperative complexes (HCC, Profhilo) and Cohesive polydensified matrix Hyaluronic Acid (CPM-HA20G) for skin quality improvement in 24 healthy female subjects. [5] HCC injections were administered on the right cheek while CPM-HA20G was injected on the left cheek of the subjects. Various skin property measurements were used to evaluate the skin of the subjects. Both treatments significantly improved skin water content (moisturization) and were associated with a higher safety and tolerability profile and higher patient satisfaction rate.

Treatment Options

Profhilo improves skin hydration by locking moisture into the skin, which in turn prevents skin dryness.

Skin Laxity

Skin laxity, also known as crepey skin, is characterized by looseness and sagging of the skin. This occurs because the age-related decline in collagen causes the skin to lose its firmness and structure. With increased skin laxity, the signs of aging can become more prominent.

Profhilo boosts collagen and elastin production when injected into the skin. Collagen helps support the different skin structures while elastin maintains skin elasticity. Over time, the treated area becomes smoother, tighter, and younger-looking.

A study evaluated the effects of the combined treatment of hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) fillers in fifteen women with facial skin laxity. [6] An injection of 3 ml HA followed by 3 ml of CaHA was given in different parts of the face of all the participants. At 120 days of follow-up, the participants had increased skin thickness and significant improvement in the appearance of facial skin laxity.

A study assessed the efficacy of hyaluronic acid (HA) Profhilo in the treatment of roughness and laxity of the neck skin. [7] Twenty-five subjects aged 40-65 years with neck roughness and laxity were included in the study. The subjects received two injections of Profhilo at 30-day intervals and were evaluated 1 and 4 months after the first injection. Overall, the treatment resulted in a clear and statistically significant improvement in the skin of the neck in all the subjects. The treatment was also associated with a very high tolerability profile.

A study included 31 healthy subjects with moderate-to-severe neck wrinkling. [8] Twenty subjects were randomized to receive hyaluronic acid cream while 11 subjects were randomized to receive a placebo cream for 2 months. Results showed that both hyaluronic acid and placebo cream improved wrinkles, skin laxity, pigmentation, redness, dryness, and skin texture. Both treatments were also associated with higher tolerability and patient satisfaction scores.

Treatment Options

Profhilo treats skin laxity and other signs of aging by boosting collagen and elastin production.
